Aura is very aware of the effects of long term overexposure to UV rays from the sun and indoor sun-bed tanning and have decided that this summer, it’s time for all of us to start caring for our bodies with the right sun protection and looking to other safer alternatives to achieving that beautiful summer glow!

Are spray tans available for men too?

Yes they are, spray tans are for everyone! 😊

Spray tans for men are growing in popularity…Let’s face it, there is something undeniably sexy about glowing, bronzed skin. A sun-kissed glow can instantly make any guy appear more youthful, healthy and in better shape. Unfortunately, the simple act of tanning—whether in a tanning bed or sunbathing—can lead to skin cancer and premature wrinkles. To avoid the consequences of traditional tanning methods, many guys are now turning to spray tanning as an alternative.

Spray tanning for men is simple, fast and helps you achieve a healthy glow without the unfortunate side effects. If you’re concerned about coming out looking too orange, we’ve got the tips you need to get a natural look from your spray tan session.

Here are several things you need to know to get a natural-looking spray tan:

  • Due to the increased risk of skin cancer in men, spray tans are far more preferable to sunbathing.
  • The best way to achieve a natural look with a spray tan is by doing careful research beforehand and talking to your chosen spray tan artist about your desired look.
  • Prepping your skin properly before your spray tan session is key to preventing streaks and spots, as human skin sheds around 30,000 to 40,000 dead skin cells per day, so exfoliating beforehand is very important.
  • Don’t forget to shave and remove any excess oil by using a daily acne scrub prior to your spraytan consultation.

Step out your comfort zone and book your man tan today.

Can you get a tan safely?

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a safe tan when it involves UV rays from the sun or indoor sunbed tanning. The UV radiation that reaches the Earth’s surface is mostly UVA (95%) and some UVB (5%).

Even on a cloudy day, you can be sunburned by UVB radiation. UVB is the ray that burns your skin and UVA is the ray that damages your skin.

Sunbeds, sun lamps and tanning booths gives out the same type of harmful radiation as sunlight. UVB have higher energy levels than UVA rays, and typically damage the outermost layers of your skin, causing sunburn. These rays directly damage DNA and are the cause of most skin cancers. The increase in skin pigment, called melanin, which causes the tan colour change in your skin is a sign of damage. Why it happens: Once skin is exposed to UV radiation, it increases the production of melanin, in attempt to protect the skin from further damage. This skin cell damage not only increases your risk of developing skin cancer but also accelerates wear and tear on your skin, such as wrinkles and sagging.

AURA says protect your skin with sun protection daily to maintain healthier, younger skin, whilst staying hydrated throughout the day!
